Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in instructional design, education, training development, curriculum development, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, and training development best practices.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with external clients, internal teams, technical professionals, and subject matter experts.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively navigate changing or ambiguous requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail while maintaining an understanding of broader program and organizational objectives.
  • Ability to work effectively under deadline pressure in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct educational and training needs assessments to identify learning requirements and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Support program planning, scoping, and development activities for new training initiatives and projects.
  • Design and develop curriculum, instructional content, and supporting materials for adult learners.
  • Develop training for multiple delivery formats, including: Instructor-led training, Interactive Distance Learning (IDL), Web-based training, Self-paced learning.
  • Create instructional materials such as exercises, case studies, tutorials, capstone activities, job aids, and other training resources.
  • Apply established style guides, templates, and procedures to maintain consistency and quality across training materials.
  • Collaborate with technical subject matter experts and cross-functional teams to translate complex information into clear, user-friendly content.
  • Serve as a liaison between technical, communications, training, and education teams to ensure coordination and consistency throughout the development process.
  • Review assessment questions, instructional materials, and supporting content and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Manage multiple assignments and priorities while meeting project deadlines and maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Contribute creative ideas and instructional strategies that improve learner engagement and training effectiveness.

The Instructional Designer will join a mission-driven team responsible for designing and developing engaging educational, training, and assessment materials aligned with transportation safety initiatives. This role requires a combination of creativity, strategic thinking, resourcefulness, and strong collaboration skills.

The Instructional Designer will partner closely with client stakeholders, technical teams, communications professionals, and training teams to develop effective learning solutions for adult audiences. The ideal candidate will be skilled at translating complex or technical information into clear, accessible, and engaging training materials while applying adult learning principles and instructional design best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Preferred Skills

Experience with instructional development tools such as Articulate Storyline, Camtasia, and Adobe Captivate is preferred but not required.
