Job summary

Uptime Institute is expanding its education portfolio and seeks an experienced Instructional Designer to join our global team. You will transform complex technical content into engaging learning experiences across classroom, virtual, blended and digital delivery modalities.

You will lead design from needs analysis through development, validation and release, ensuring robust assessment, accessibility and learner outcomes, while collaborating with SMEs across time zones.

Uptime Education is a leader in delivering high-quality training for the data centre and network cabling industry. We specialise in creating industry-relevant, forward-thinking programmes that support the development of skilled professionals worldwide. We are expanding our curriculum development team and are seeking an experienced, innovative and learner-focused Instructional Designer to join us.

The Instructional Designer will work alongside Technical Developers, transforming specialist technical expertise into engaging, effective, evidence-based learning experiences. The role combines instructional design expertise with modern learning technologies and adult learning principles to create world-class learning products suitable for classroom, virtual, blended and digital delivery.

Role Overview:

The Instructional Designer is responsible for the end-to-end instructional design of training programmes, from training needs analysis through design, development, validation and release. The successful candidate will ensure every programme follows recognised instructional design best practice, incorporates modern learning technologies, and provides an exceptional learner experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct training needs analysis (TNA) to identify learning and performance requirements.
  • Design learning solutions using recognised instructional design methodologies (ADDIE, SAM or equivalent).
  • Work with Technical Developers and subject matter experts to convert technical content into engaging learning experiences.
  • Create course structures, lesson plans, learner journeys, storyboards and facilitator guides.
  • Develop classroom, virtual instructor-led, blended and self-paced digital learning programmes.
  • Design assessments including formative, summative and performance-based assessments.
  • Ensure learning outcomes, assessments and content are constructively aligned.
  • Apply adult learning principles, cognitive science and evidence-based educational practices.
  • Use modern authoring tools, multimedia and AI technologies to improve learning quality and efficiency.
  • Review and quality assure training materials for instructional quality, consistency and accessibility.
  • Evaluate programme effectiveness using learner feedback, assessment data and business outcomes.
  • Support pilot deliveries and continuous improvement following course release.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging instructional design trends, learning technologies and educational research.
  • Collaborate with global colleagues and customers across multiple time zones.

Preferred Experience
  • Experience as an Instructional Designer within higher education, further education or commercial training.
  • Experience working across analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation.
  • Experience developing technical or engineering training.
Desirable Skills (not essential)
  • Articulate 360, Rise, Adobe Creative Suite or similar authoring tools.
  • Learning Management Systems (LMS) and Learning Experience Platforms (LXP).
  • Accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive learning design.
  • Multimedia production including video, animation and interactive learning.
  • Learning analytics and evaluation methodologies.
  • AI-assisted content development and workflow automation.
  • Facilitation or instructor delivery experience.
  • Technical writing and editing.
  • Experience working with global teams and distributed SMEs.
  • Working knowledge of data centres, engineering, networking or related technical industries is advantageous.
