SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Instructional Coach performs a variety of instructional support tasks in coordinating the effective implementation of all instructional programs. The Instructional Coach will primarily assist teachers with developing strategies and methods for assessing and addressing the literacy & math deficiencies of their students. The Coach will also be responsible for developing teachers in content and pedagogical approach.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
● Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
● Must be deemed Highly Qualified in accordance with the Indiana Department of Education or their last state of employment
● Minimum of 3-5 years of successful classroom teaching experience and working with teachers
● Strong organizational and management skills
● Strong leadership abilities, particularly within a change process
● Knowledge and expertise in the area of literacy instruction
● Experience and expertise in guided reading
● Experience in planning and facilitating professional development sessions either as a teacher or
presenter
● High level of expertise regarding the Indiana Academic Standards.
● Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other professional staff members
● Evidence of utilizing data to make instructional decisions
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Demonstrates an understanding coaching & feedback cycles & data-driven instruction.
● Participates in regularly scheduled staff and school level meetings as required
● Plans, schedules and facilitates teacher meetings focused on best practices in instruction and student
achievement
● Facilitates meetings devoted to examining samples of student work and assessment data
● Guides teachers in linking best practices and materials to standards
● Develops and models mastery learning opportunities
● Works collaboratively with teachers in the development of ELA & Math common formative assessments
● Provides ongoing support of school initiatives
● Implements coaching cycles to provide targeted support to teachers
● Meets with the principals to monitor and support implementation of curriculum & assessments
● Provides ongoing training and support for teachers
● Participates in and seeks out professional development opportunities to improve knowledge and skills
● Supports teachers in analyzing literacy data to improve instructional practices
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Teacher's License or Valid Teacher's License from another state; Administrative License recommended but not necessary
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to compose documents and tools for instructional use required. Thorough knowledge of grammatical rules, spelling, punctuation and formats required.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs and all other statistical measurement tools.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed and involved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to utilize courtesy and tact when communicating with others to deliver clear and concise messages.
