Job summary

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Houston invites applications for a non-tenure-track Instructional Assistant Professor position for Organic Chemistry and General Chemistry. The successful candidate will teach large sections (>200 students) and develop original, free-response exams to assess student understanding in organic chemistry lecture courses.

The role emphasizes excellence in undergraduate teaching, development of instructional materials and assessments, and collaboration

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry.
• Experience using Canvas and Microsoft Teams.
• Strong commitment to chemistry education.
• Experience teaching in-person university-level chemistry lecture courses is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Teach two large (>200 students) sections of Organic Chemistry I and/or II, or one section of Organic Chemistry and one section of General Chemistry.
• Teach one section of Organic Chemistry I or II during Summer Session 1.
• Construct original, free-response midterm and final exams for Organic Chemistry I and II lecture sections.
• Engage in departmental and university service and curriculum improvement.
