Position: Instructional Assistant-Student Services (PHS) 37.5 hrs./wk. Grade 4 Effective August 11, 2025

Salary: Grade 4, Step 1, $25.83. Salary schedule is listed in the ESPA agreement linked here.

Assignment: 10 Month

General Responsibilities:

This work involves close interaction with staff, students, and parents/guardians, focusing on implementing specialized or vocational education programs. An Instructional Assistant works under the direction of a licensed teacher and must react appropriately in crisis situations, demonstrating initiative and creativity.

An employee in this position operates within clearly established systems and procedures, exhibiting organizational skills, independent judgment, and confidentiality. The role requires initiative and a collaborative team approach to support the district's mission.

Qualifications:
  • Must have or obtain State and NCLB Approved Paraprofessional designation per Illinois State Board of Education requirements.
  • Physical ability to lift/move supplies, materials, and equipment up to 50 lbs, including assisting students.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods and move frequently within the building.
  • Organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Proficiency with computers, office practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Positive attitude and professional image.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Awareness of diverse student needs, including physical and social-emotional.
  • Ability to adapt to various subject areas.

Additional qualifications include a valid driver’s license and previous experience working with youth.

Position Expectations:
  1. Assist students under licensed staff supervision with tutoring, behavioral reinforcement, assessments, organizational skills, grading, technology use, and supporting IEP goals. Also, assist with non-medical physical needs and develop basic software knowledge.
  2. Support licensed staff with organizing off-campus programs, clerical tasks, lab setup, explaining procedures, previewing materials, recording student data, and viewing student info systems.
  3. Collaborate in assessment, academic support, student interactions, behavior enforcement, and social development.
  4. Participate in professional development activities.
  5. Foster inclusive and equitable relationships with staff, students, and the community.
