Position Overview
Logan City School District is seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and student-centered Instructional Assistant – Behavior to support students at Mount Logan Middle School. This position assists teachers and administrators in creating a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment by providing behavioral, academic, and instructional support to students with diverse learning and behavioral needs. The Instructional Assistant – Behavior works collaboratively with teachers, administrators, specialists, and families to promote student success, reinforce positive behavior, and support individualized learning goals.
Essential Functions
- Provide instructional support to students individually and in small groups under the direction of licensed staff.
- Assist in implementing individualized learning plans, behavior intervention plans, accommodations, and classroom supports.
- Adapt classroom activities and instructional materials to meet individual student needs.
- Reinforce academic instruction and behavioral expectations using established instructional strategies.
- Assist with administering classroom assessments and monitoring student progress.
- Observe, document, and communicate student academic and behavioral performance to appropriate staff.
- Support students in developing appropriate social, emotional, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Model and reinforce positive behavior, conflict resolution, and appropriate classroom conduct.
- Assist teachers in developing and preparing instructional materials and classroom activities.
- Conduct instructional activities such as reading support, skill practice, small‑group instruction, and other educational interventions.
- Monitor students in classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, playgrounds, field trips, and other school settings to ensure safety and appropriate behavior.
- Maintain classroom materials, instructional resources, and assigned inventories.
- Assist with classroom organization and preparation of instructional materials.
- Support substitute teachers and other staff by providing information regarding student needs and classroom routines.
- Participate in meetings, trainings, and professional development activities as assigned.
- Report incidents involving student safety, suspected abuse, bullying, substance abuse, or other concerns in accordance with district policy and state law.
- Respond professionally to inquiries from teachers, administrators, specialists, parents, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and employee information in accordance with district policy and applicable federal and state laws.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the instructional program and school operations.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with implementing positive behavior supports and de‑escalation strategies.
- Encourage student independence while providing appropriate supervision and guidance.
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, behavior specialists, and administrators to support student achievement and well‑being.
- Help maintain a structured, organized, and positive classroom environment.
- Assist with data collection related to student behavior and academic progress.
- Support school‑wide behavioral expectations and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) initiatives, when applicable.
- Assist with supervision during school activities and special events.
- Perform related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient operation of the school.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 48 semester college credit hours from an accredited college or university or successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment, if required.
Experience
- Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational, behavioral, or related setting is preferred.
- Experience supporting students with behavioral, emotional, or special learning needs is desirable.

- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
- Basic proficiency with computers, educational technology, and office software.
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions while working independently when appropriate.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently sit, stand, and walk throughout the workday.
- Lift, carry, push, or pull instructional materials and student equipment as needed.
- Demonstrate sufficient mobility to supervise students throughout the school environment.
- Frequently use fine motor skills for classroom preparation and instructional support.
- Occasionally assist students with mobility or behavioral interventions, as appropriate.
- Effectively communicate in person and in writing with students, staff, and parents.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in a school setting with frequent interaction with students who may require behavioral, academic, social, and emotional support. The position requires flexibility, patience, and the ability to respond appropriately to changing student needs while maintaining a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment.

- Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance required prior to employment.
