Mountain City Public Montessori in Asheville, NC, is seeking an Instructional Assistant to support Montessori teachers and maintain a prepared learning environment for K-8 students. The role focuses on observation, data collection, and promoting student independence within a respectful classroom culture.

Ideal candidates will have a strong commitment to helping children, solid classroom management skills, and proficiency with Google Docs.

Mountain City Public Montessori is a tuition-free public Montessori Charter school for children in grades kindergarten through 8th grade in Asheville, North Carolina. Our mission is to provide equitable access to a high-quality, relevant Montessori education to meet the needs of all students and to strengthen our community. Instructional Assistants in the Montessori classroom are key to ensuring that the complex learning environment is prepared for children. Assistants enable Montessori teachers to focus on instruction without interruption. The assistant’s broad awareness and scanning of the environment not only protects the teacher’s lessons but also assures that observational data is being gathered continuously, students are navigating the environment appropriately, and concentration is honored. The teacher and assistant’s interactions offer a constant model of grace and courtesy for students to emulate.

MCPM is accepting applications for Instructional Assistants help ensure fidelity of implementation of the Montessori pedagogy. The primary classroom roles of the assistant are to help prepare the environment, observe and record student work, support procedural autonomy, protect student concentration, and model grace and courtesy.

Requirements/Qualifications

• High school diploma required
• Experience working with children

• Possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills
• Be a motivated self starter who enjoys challenges, experimentation, and growth in a collaborative environment

Assistant pay for the 26-27school year is $32,000 for a 10 month contract. Benefits include the NC state health plan, private retirement match up to 3%, and more!
