Job summary

Elk River Area School District invites applications for an Instructional Assistant at Westwood Elementary School. This temporary role runs ASAP through December 22, 2026, with a 3-hour split shift and 3 hours per day.

Starting pay is $21.18 per hour, with details in the attached master agreement. The Instructional Assistant will supervise students in the classroom, lunchroom, playground, and assist teachers by preparing materials, supporting classroom management, and performing general duties as

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
• Ability to work effectively with parents, students, and staff.
• Experience with classroom technology is desirable.
• Ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision.
• Flexibility to work overtime including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher in tutoring students, collecting student data, and other student activities to ensure effective classroom management.
• Assist teachers in collecting and preparing instructional materials, including shopping for supplies.
• Set-up, organize, and replace consumable materials to ensure materials are available for students.
• Utilize positive behavior management techniques at the direction of the teacher.
• Assist the teacher in the production of materials to be used during class time.
• Maintain confidentiality of family and program information.
• Work as a team member with other staff to promote a positive educational environment.
• Supervise students in the lunchroom, classroom, and playground; wipe lunch tables as needed.
• May perform general duties such as filing, data entry, and answering phones.
• May sell, take and tally tickets for school events.
• Other job related duties as assigned.

Description: The Instructional Assistant assists by supervising students in the classroom, on the playground, and in the lunchroom, and by preparing materials for use in the classroom. Classroom set-up and clean-up are also a part of this job.

Job Summary:

• Assist the teacher in the classroom with tutoring students, collecting student data, and other student activities to ensure effective classroom management.
• Assist teachers in collecting and preparing instructional materials, which may include shopping for supplies; such as, media center materials, reading and math worksheets and tests, project materials, general supplies, and straightening rooms so that instructional materials are available when needed to support classroom activities. Set-up, organize, and replace consumable materials used in the classroom to ensure materials are available for students and ensure effective classroom management.
• Utilize positive behavior management techniques at the direction of the teacher to ensure effective classroom management.
• Assist the teacher in the production of materials to be used during class time to ensure effective classroom management.
• Maintain confidentiality of family and program information.
• Work as a team member with other staff to promote positive educational environment.
• Supervise students in the lunchroom, classroom, playground, or other assigned areas and may also wipe lunch tables so that students act in a safe manner appropriate to the school environment.

Qualifications:

• High school degree, GED, or equivalent experience.
• Ability to work effectively with parents, students, and other staff.
• Ability and experience working with classroom technology is desirable.
• Willingness to accept and follow direction.
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
