Fond du Lac Ojibwe School is seeking a dedicated para-professional to reinforce reading, language arts, and mathematics. You will work with students individually and in small groups, assist teachers with classroom activities, and help prepare instructional materials to support diverse learners.

The role includes supervising meals and recess, accompanying students on field trips, and promoting inclusive education aligned with IEP goals. Strong communication and attention to detail are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits, or an associate’s degree.
  • Ability to assist in reading, writing, and mathematics readiness.
  • Previous experience with students with special needs preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and speech.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and guide students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction.
  • Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce learning.
  • Assist teachers with administration and correction of classroom expectations, tests, and assessments.
  • Assist in preparing instructional materials and reinforcing skills per student needs.
  • Supervise student breakfast/lunch programs, playground/recess, hallway, and study hall as needed.
  • Accompany students on field trips to assist with supervision.
  • Support students with disabilities to maximize inclusion and IEP goals.

Division/Department: Education/Ojibwe School - On SiteLocation: Fond du Lac Ojibwe SchoolReports To: Ojibwe School PrincipalProbationary Period: 90 days – Full time; 120 days - Part timeFLSA Status: Non-Exempt (hourly)Classification: Child Related CADriver’s License: Level 0 - No Driver's License RequiredRate of Pay: $15.99-$17.99Responsibilities: Assist and guide students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.Assist teachers in the administration and correction of classroom expectations, learning, tests, and assessments.Assist in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.Assist students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising student breakfast/lunch programs, playground/recess duty, hallway, study hall, and other related non-instructional areas.Accompany students on field trips for the purpose of assisting with supervision.Develop, copy, and distribute educational materials as needed.Assist students with disabilities in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize inclusion, learning, and achievement of IEP goals.Assist in documentation including observations, behavior charts, behavior referrals, etc. As needed.Promotes supports students in culturally appropriate activities.Alerts the general education teacher to any problems or specific information about individual students.Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of licensed teachers.Actively advocate and demonstrate appropriate adult child interactions.Maintain a professional relationship with all staff and community members.Maintains professional standards toward creating confidential relationships with all program participants and staff.Establish and maintain an attractive, safe, healthy, and developmentally appropriate environment for students.Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.Maintains a clean and organized work area.Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as management sees the necessity.Qualifications: No Driver’s License Required.High school diploma or equivalent is required.One of the following is required: o Completed at least 60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits of study at an institution of higher educations; or, o Obtained an associate’s degree (or higher); or, o Met rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through formal State or local academic assessment knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics. Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading readiness, writing readiness and mathematics readiness, as appropriate. This can be demonstrated by receiving a passing score on the State of Minnesota Para-professional skills test within 30 days of employment.Previous experience working with students with special needs is preferred.Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.Ability to work independently and establish priorities is requiredAttention to detail and accuracy is required.Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation’s Personnel Policies.Subject to pre-employment and annual background checks.Travel is required.
