Job Summary

The Instructional Aide supports individual students and groups by providing personalized education aligned with IEPs, under the supervision of the Special Education Teacher, General Education teachers, and/or Speech & Language Pathologist, while embodying Aspire's core values.

Essential Functions

  1. Provide services, supports, and interventions directly to students, under supervision of the Special Education teachers.
  2. Implement IEPs faithfully, supporting students with toileting, health needs (e.g., g-tube, feeding, medication under nurse supervision), and physical needs (lifting, mobility, stretching).
  3. Monitor behavior intervention plans and support students with IEPs in the school setting.
  4. Track progress and input data as per IEP goals.
  5. Create and modify instructional materials for students' needs.
  6. Collaborate regularly with IEP team members, including teachers, specialists, and administrators.
  7. Support students with Behavior Supports and Services by implementing Behavior Intervention Plans, supporting mental health needs, and teaching behavior strategies, including de-escalation techniques.
  8. Uphold Aspire's mission, values, policies, confidentiality, and ethical standards.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Competencies:

  • Knowledge of child development and learning styles.
  • Experience with students with extensive needs preferred.
  • Willingness to implement IEPs and reflect on practice.
  • Flexibility, good judgment, and confidentiality.
  • Belief in inclusion and high expectations for diverse learners.

Minimum Educational Level:

  • Associate’s degree, 48 college credits, or passing Paraprofessional Test; Bachelor’s preferred.

Experience:

  • At least 1 year working with students with special needs or from urban communities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to move and position self in various environments, remain stationary, communicate, and perform repetitive motions.
