Position Summary

Provide instructional and classroom support to students with disabilities under the direction of certified special education and general education teachers. Assist teachers in implementing students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), including accommodations, modifications, instructional strategies, and behavior supports.

Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce classroom instruction, promote academic and social development, and support students’ successful participation in the general education environment. Assist with classroom organization, instructional materials, data collection, and supervision as assigned. Work under the general supervision of the campus principal and the immediate direction of certified teachers.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency.
• Experience working with children in any of the following: school, daycare, church, day camp, youth group, private school, licensed day-care center, or similar.
• Valid educational aide certificate issued by the State Board of Educator Certification (SBEC) must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
• Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associates degree or higher from an accredited college/university.
• Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• Experience working with students with disabilities in a school or educational setting.
• Experience supporting students in an inclusive or general education classroom.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish.
• Knowledge of instructional accommodations, modifications, and behavior-support strategies.

Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities

• Provide instructional assistance to students with disabilities under the direction of certified special education and general education teachers.
• Support students in the general education classroom and other instructional settings to promote participation, independence, and academic success.
• Assist in implementing accommodations, modifications, supplementary aids, and instructional strategies identified in students’ IEPs.
• Assist with collecting supporting documentation for certified teachers for ARD meetings.
• Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce skills and concepts presented by the classroom teacher.
• Provide additional clarification, prompting, modeling, and guided practice to help students understand and complete classroom assignments.
• Assist students with organization, task completion, study skills, and development of independent learning skills.
• Support students in accessing grade-level curriculum and participating appropriately in classroom activities.
• Reinforce positive academic, social, and behavioral expectations established by the classroom teacher and campus.
• Assist teachers in monitoring student progress and collecting instructional or behavioral data as directed.
• Communicate observations regarding student academic performance, behavior, participation, and progress to the teacher.
• Assist students in using instructional technology, classroom materials, and other resources necessary to access instruction.
• Provide appropriate support during transitions between classrooms and instructional activities.
• Assist with classroom management and maintain a positive, safe, and supportive learning environment.
• Support students during lunch, recess, arrival, dismissal, assemblies, field trips, and other school activities as assigned.
• Encourage student independence and self-advocacy by providing the level of assistance necessary for students to successfully complete tasks.
