Position Compensation: $20.71/hr - $26.51/hr plus excellent benefits.
Job Purpose
Under general supervision of the Disabilities Manager, the Instructional Aide – Disabilities works with an assigned caseload of children with special needs and/or challenging behaviors. The role involves collaborating with educational staff to ensure students meet their development and progress objectives, facilitating positive interactions, and providing clerical and technical support to the disabilities services area.
Position Responsibilities
- Work with teachers and staff to understand specific disabilities in relation to classroom behaviors and learning needs.
- Review individual development plans and communicate with staff about methods and tools to facilitate learning.
- Provide temporary one-on-one support for children with special needs as assigned.
- Develop positive relationships with students, based on patience, understanding, and respect.
- Assist children in developing peer relationships, self-help skills, safety awareness, and reaching their potential.
- Consider learning objectives and instructional techniques related to lesson plans.
- Contribute comments for children’s evaluation and planning.
- Monitor and document children’s progress, maintaining comprehensive files.
- Assist in staff and parent training to meet the needs of children with disabilities.
- Work with children of varying abilities and adhere to IEPs/IFSPs.
- Follow agency policies and procedures.
- Provide culturally and linguistically appropriate service to parents, children, and community members.
- Complete all paperwork and documentation accurately and timely.
- Attend meetings and trainings as required.
- Support recruitment and enrollment goals.
- Assist in achieving program funding goals through community resources.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Experience)
- Education and Work Experience: High School Diploma or GED/HiSET required; coursework in child development, special education, counseling, or related field preferred. At least 2 years’ experience working with children with special needs, including experience with IEPs/IFSPs.
- Knowledge and Skills: Ability to collect and interpret behavior data, work well in a team, organize effectively, communicate clearly, and use basic computer applications. Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus but not required.
Special Conditions
- Valid California Driver’s License and access to a vehicle.
- Background checks including sex offender, child abuse, criminal history, and FBI fingerprint checks.
- Verification of T.B. clearance and health screening.
- Proof of immunizations including COVID-19 vaccination.
- Complete 15 hours of professional development annually, with at least 50% focused on the job area.
Physical Demands
Must meet physical requirements such as lifting up to 45 lbs, working with children at their eye level, and outdoor/indoor supervision. Accommodations may be provided for disabilities.
