THE POSITION
Under general supervision of an administrator, performs a variety of instructional and routine clerical duties designed to free the instructor from routine work related to the program.
CURRENT OPENING: Two 10 month/15 hours per week positions. Salary placement will be on Range 13 of the CSEA Salary Schedule "B". Initial salary placement for new employees is customarily at step 1 ($19.76 per hour) of this salary range

Eligibility lists typically last for one year. Vacant positions are filled from the top three ranks. Essential Duties
- Assists in maintaining a neat, orderly, and attractive learning environment.
- Tutors individuals in small groups of students to reinforce and follow up learning activity.
- Monitors and assists students through drill, practice, and study activities following the presentation of instructional concepts by certificated instructional personnel.
- Operates a variety of instructional media, office machines, and equipment.
- Assists certificated instructional personnel with the presentation of learning materials and instructional exercises.
- Maintains student records and files.
- Disciplines children in classroom or work center.
- Assists in the development of a variety of instructional materials for use with individual and small groups of students.
- Monitors resource centers and assists students in the utilization of center material and equipment.
- Makes simple arithmetical calculations.
- Grades papers.
Other Related Duties
- Some positions may assist students in a computer lab.
- Maintain a computer lab.
- Distribute and maintain an inventory of textbooks, supplies, and equipment.
- Collects, assembles, catalogs, and distributes resource materials.
- May assist in providing minor first aid to students with minor illnesses or injuries.
- May assist with recess and/or detention supervision.
- Assist in parent conferences.
- Maintain student records and files.
- All positions perform other related duties as directed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Employees in this classification stand, walk, bend, use fingers repetitively, speak clearly, hear normal conversation, have depth perception, color vision and see small details and long distances well.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employees in this classification work primarily indoors, in direct contact with students, the public and other district staff, exposed to minor contagious illnesses (colds, flu, etc.), exposed to sever contagious illnesses/disease (tuberculosis, measles, mumps, chicken pox, hepatitis, etc.), without guidance from supervisor.

Requirements
The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 requires public schools to be in compliance when hiring paraprofessionals for classroom instruction. The following additional requirements are:
Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
AND ONE of the following:
- A minimum of 48 semester or 72 quarter units of college coursework.
- An Associate's or higher degree.
- Pass an assessment that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in teaching, reading, writing and mathematics.

COVID Vaccine Requirement
Per Board policy, employees are allowed on District campuses or facilities only if they are fully vaccinated. This resolution applies to all applicants upon hire. Applicants are required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination status to the Personnel Commission Office on the date of the examination. People are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after completion of a vaccine.
General Information
The screening process for this position, which may be subject to modification, will include some form of an application screening, initial screening of qualifications, documentation/certification screening, and in some instances supplemental application screening. The stated qualifications for the position represent only the minimum requirements and do not guarantee qualification for examination or placement on an eligibility list.
The examination may consist of any combination of the following: training and experience evaluation, written knowledge test, hands on/performance test, structured panel interview, situational judgement interview, or other type of exam of fitness for duty. All parts of the examination process are job related. A passing score must be attained on each portion of the exam to advance to the next stage and ultimate placement on the eligibility list, which depending on the classification, may be in force for six months or one year.

Paid Holidays
Up to 16 holidays per year depending on months worked for all classified employees.
Paid Vacation
Vacation is prorated for all classified employees, based on the hours and months worked per year. Below is the vacation schedule for classified supervisors and classified staff.
Classified Employee Vacation Chart
1-5 years of service
- One day of vacation will be earned per month worked.
6-10 years of service
- One and one-quarter (1 ¼) days of vacation will be earned per month worked.
11-15 years of service
- One and one-half (1 ½) days of vacation will be earned per month worked.
16-20 years of service
- One and three-fourths (1 ¾) days of vacation will be earned per month worked.
21 + years of service
- Two (2) days of vacation will be earned per month worked.
Health Benefits
For positions 35 hours or more per week the District contributes $12,900 (subject to change) toward annual premium for medical, dental, vision and life insurance coverage. Partially paid benefits are available for part-time (20-34) hour employees. The District participates in the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). Lifetime retirement benefits provided for eligible retirees.
District Benefit Providers
The following benefit providers are available for enrollment for eligible employees.
- Medical: Kaiser, United Health Care PPO/HMO
- Dental: Delta Dental (PPO) or DeltaCare USA (HMO)
- Vision: Vision Service Plan (VSP)
- Out of pocket costs are dependent on which provider is selected. Each provider has a different annual premium.

- PERS members that begin after December 31, 2012
Paid Sick Leave
Every regular classified employee, probationary or permanent, can earn paid sick leave credit(s) based on one day for each month in which such employees are in a paid status with the District. Earned, but unused sick leave can accumulate without limit. Full-time classified employees (those who work 8 hours per day, 5 days per week and 12 months per year) will normally earn twelve (12) days of sick leave credit(s) during each fiscal year.
