Qualifications

  • Must be a current UM-Flint undergraduate student or a recent graduate and not enrolled in a UM-Flint graduate program.
  • Successfully completed CHM 260 (or an equivalent General Chemistry I course) with a final grade of A
  • Strong understanding of introductory chemistry concepts.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to explain scientific concepts clearly and work effectively with students.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling student information.

# INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE - CHM 260 (Student/Work Study)University of MichiganFlint, MIPart-TimeAug 12, 2026Education## Job Description## Job SummaryThe Instructional Aide (IA) for CHM 260-Principles of Chemistry I supports the instructional mission of the course by assisting the instructor with grading, instructional preparation, and student academic support. The IA helps facilitate student learning by providing guidance on course material, answering questions, and assisting with course administration.This position does not include any course instruction.## Responsibilities\** Assist the instructor with objectively grading assignments, quizzes, exams, and other course assessments.* Provide support to students by getting answers to questions and clarifying coursework* Assist in the preparation and organization of materials, including course handouts, practice problems, and online course content, primarily by printing course handouts for the instructor.* Support course administration by helping manage course communications and other tasks as assigned. ## Required Qualifications\* + Must be a current University of Michigan-Flint undergraduate student or a recent graduate and not enrolled in a UM-Flint graduate program. + Successfully completed CHM 260 (or an equivalent General Chemistry I course) with a final grade of A + Demonstrated strong understanding of introductory chemistry concepts. + Must have strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. + Ability to explain scientific concepts clearly and work effectively with students. + Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling student information. ## Desired Qualifications\* - Previous experience tutoring, mentoring, or assisting students in chemistry or other STEM courses. - Experience using learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) or similar educational technologies. - Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines. ## Modes of Work Onsite The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.
