Job description

Instructional Aide (B/VI) - Early Learning

Join to apply for the Instructional Aide (B/VI) - Early Learning role at State of Ohio.

This position serves in the Blind/Visually Impaired Early Learning Classroom.

The Early Learning Center seeks dynamic applicants passionate about supporting students with diverse learning needs. Applications will be reviewed for both the Instructional Aide and Instructional Aide Trainee roles. Candidates not meeting the Instructional Aide qualifications will be considered for the Trainee position.

Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers of students who are blind, visually impaired, deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, or with multiple disabilities in academic instruction, vocational training, daily living skills, and classroom activities.
  • Support students by tutoring, conducting lessons, ensuring safety, counseling, monitoring behavior, supporting adaptive technology, and assisting during meals and transportation.
  • Prepare and support lesson plans, integrate technology, and create instructional media.
  • Assist in preparing for IEP meetings, documenting student progress, and participating in evaluations and meetings.
  • Perform clerical tasks related to educational duties.
Qualifications
  • Must possess a current Educational Aide Permit issued by the State Board of Education.
  • 12 months of teaching assistance experience required for Instructional Aide; Trainee candidates need only the permit.
  • Intermediate level on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) required upon hire for positions at the Ohio School for the Deaf.
Additional Requirements
  • Renewal of permits, CPR & First Aid certification within 1 year, and appropriate van certification if transporting students.
  • For Ohio School for the Deaf positions, demonstrate Advanced SLPI within 1 year.
Work Conditions
  • May include evenings, weekends, outdoor work, and exposure to challenging behaviors, human waste, and infectious diseases.
