Please note: This position serves in the Blind/Visually Impaired Early Learning Classroom.
The Early Learning Center is seeking dynamic applicants with a passion for supporting students who are diverse learners. Applications received for this posting will be reviewed for both the Instructional Aide and Instructional Aide Trainee. Candidates who do not meet the Instructional Aide qualifications will be considered for the Instructional Aide Trainee classification.
Instructional Aide Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist teachers of students (pre-school to post-secondary) who are blind, visually impaired, deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, or have multiple disabilities in academic instruction, vocational, daily living skills, and classroom support.
- Support students in using adaptive technology, provide language enrichment, accompany and assist during meals, facilitate transportation, and operate relevant equipment.
- Implement teacher lesson plans in their absence, prepare instructional materials, support technology integration, and assist in the development of visual lessons.
- Assist in preparing for IEP meetings, participate in student evaluations, and perform clerical tasks such as maintaining records and preparing materials.
- In the Alice Cogswell Center, prepare programming for children from birth to pre-school and attend training sessions.
Instructional Aide Trainee Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receive training and mentorship from teachers to assist students with disabilities in academic and daily living skills.
- Escort students, monitor lunch and activities, assist with movement, and perform clerical tasks such as record-keeping and preparing materials.
- Participate in meetings and evaluations, providing observations and progress reports.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a current Educational Aide Permit issued by the State Board of Education.
- For positions at the Ohio School for the Deaf, an intermediate level on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) is required upon hire.
Training and Development:
- Renewal of the Educational Aide Permit, certification in CPR & First Aid within 1 year, and van certification if transporting students.
- For Ohio School for the Deaf, demonstrate an advanced level on SLPI within 1 year.
Unusual Working Conditions:
- May include evening/weekend work, exposure to weather, and handling challenging behaviors or health risks.
