Job summary

Kerrville Independent School District (Starkey Elementary School) seeks a Special Education/Autism Aide to support individual students with disabilities inside and outside the classroom under the supervision of the principal and a certified teacher.

This role assists with implementing IEPs, self-help skills, behavior management, and instructional programs; helps students during lunch, bus, and recess; and communicates student needs to the teacher to help ensure safety and progress.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.

Responsibilities

• Help manage the behavior of assigned student(s). Intervene in crisis situations and restrain disruptive or dangerous student as needed.
• Recognize differences in medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs and adapt methods and interaction accordingly.
• Work with assigned student(s) or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises as directed by the teacher.
• Assist assigned students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom (lunchroom, bus, playground).
• Keep the teacher informed of special needs or problems of assigned student(s).

Primary Purpose

Help meet physical and instructional needs of individual students with disabilities inside and outside classroom. Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEP), including self-help, behavior management, and instruction programs. Work under general supervision of principal and immediate direction of certified teacher.

Salary

$16.10 - $22.90 (Yearly: $22,580 - $32,117) *Pay will be commensurate with experience.

Qualifications: Education/Certification

High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate
