Job summary

The Research Analyst at the University of Oregon BFADA division supports data enablement by creating dashboards, reports, and analytical tools to inform academic and curricular priorities.

You will partner with Academic Affairs to collect and analyze data on student and faculty success, translate findings for diverse audiences, and help advance strategic plan implementation while safeguarding sensitive information.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in data science, statistics, social science, education, or related field and two years of experience in research, data analysis, or assessment (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
• Two year’s experience using data visualization software (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
• Experience producing and maintaining dashboards, regular performance reports, and/or ad hoc analyses for decision makers using tools such as SQL, R, Power BI, Tableau.
• Experience working successfully with complex relational databases and with statistical resources such as query and business intelligence tools.
• Experience using statistical analysis software (e.g., Stata, SPSS, SAS, R).

Department Summary

The Budget, Financial Analysis and Data Analytics (BFADA) division reports to the Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration with a dotted line to the Office of the Provost. BFADA units are an institutional resource and provide strategic and operational budget, financial analysis, and data analytics services to all levels of the University of Oregon.

The office of Data Enablement within BFADA supports faculty, staff, and leadership to use data deliberately to support decision making. The Data Enablement team empowers effective data use by delivering trusted data, data tools, and user support. We partner with academic and administrative units to ensure governance and management of data, provide consistent data definitions and access to information, and create data tools for decision support at all levels of the organization.

BFADA supports the university's mission by delivering financial tools and operational support to academic and administrative units and supports decision makers with consistent, timely, and accurate reports and strategic insights. The division is committed to strategic priorities of the Finance and Administration portfolio.

Position Summary

The Research Analyst supports the Office of Data Enablement’s mission to provide trusted data, data tools, and user support for institutional decision-making. This position works on a team that supports data needs across campus, but primarily partners with Academic Affairs to collect, analyze, and communicate data related to student and faculty success, with an emphasis on producing timely, accurate, and well managed analyses that inform academic and curricular priorities.

Working independently and collaboratively, the analyst develops dashboards, standard and ad hoc reports, and analytical tools that address critical questions related to curriculum, program and student learning outcome assessment, and student success. Responsibilities include managing data collection and cleaning, selecting appropriate methodologies, and translating findings into clear findings for diverse audiences. The role supports key institutional efforts such as strategic plan implementation, curricular analytics, and assessment reporting.

The Research Analyst collaborates with campus data partners to promote shared data definitions, access, and efficiencies that strengthen internal data use. The position also contributes to proactive data dissemination and user education, expanding effective use of existing data sources and tools. This role requires careful handling of sensitive and confidential data, strong time management skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment.

The position is grounded in a commitment to user-support, effective decision-making and to improving institutional practice through thoughtful analysis, clear communication, and well-designed data tools.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in data science, statistics, social science, education, or related field, AND two years of experience in research, data analysis, or assessment (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
• Two year’s experience using data visualization software (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
• Experience producing and maintaining dashboards, regular performance reports, and/or ad hoc analyses for decision makers using tools such as SQL, R, Power BI, Tableau.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with higher education learning outcome assessment or program evaluation.
• Experience working with sensitive or confidential data and applying appropriate data stewardship and privacy practices.
• Graduate-level coursework in statistics, research methods, data management, social-science research or relevant experience.
