Job summary

The University of South Carolina seeks an Institutional Research Analyst to transform institutional data into accurate, meaningful information that supports reporting and compliance across state and federal requirements.

This role works with data from multiple systems, prepares key reports, improves data quality, and partners with campus colleagues to inform decision-making and enhance data visualization capabilities.

Qualifications

• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments in a deadline-driven setting.
• Experience with large relational databases and querying enterprise data systems.
• Advanced proficiency in Office and statistical software (SAS, SPSS, R, STATA, Python).
• Experience developing data visualizations with Tableau or Power BI and communicating results.

Responsibilities

• Prepare state, federal, and external institutional reports using data from multiple systems.
• Partner with campus colleagues to strengthen data quality, consistency, and documentation.
• Translate complex analyses into clear insights to support informed decision-making.

The Institutional Research Analyst works with data from multiple systems, prepares key state, federal, and external reports, and partners with colleagues across campus to strengthen data quality and consistency. This position is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with data, solving problems, and contributing to work that supports informed decision-making across the University.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Ability to manage and prioritize many assignments/projects simultaneously. Enjoyment and comfort at working collaboratively in a deadline and detail-oriented setting.
• Experience with large, complex relational databases and in querying enterprise data systems (e.g., Banner, PeopleSoft) and warehouse environments. Demonstrated ability to quickly master new technology.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and at least one statistical software application such as SAS, SPSS, R, STATA, or Python. Strengths in problem solving, critical thinking, and data/statistical analyses.
• Experience in the development of effective data visualizations using tools such as Tableau or Power BI. Demonstrated effectiveness in communicating findings orally, graphically, and in written form to a variety of audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• A master's degree or higher in Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Technology, or related field. Two or more years working with higher education institutional data, compliance reporting, accreditation, state or federal reporting, or national surveys preferred.
• Experience with Banner, PeopleSoft, Cognos, SAS, Tableau, or similar reporting and data-management tools preferred. Strong attention to detail; ability to manage multiple deadlines; and demonstrated skill in data validation, documentation, problem solving, and communicating with campus partners.
