Job summary

Mirror is seeking a Food Service Worker to support meal preparation for residents at a designated facility in Newton, Kansas. Under supervision, you will manage inventory, grocery shopping, and menu planning while ensuring confidentiality and compliance with health and safety regulations.

You will supervise offenders assigned to assist, maintain kitchen standards, and coordinate with medical staff on dietary needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Vocational/Technical courses and/or related experience preferred.
• Experience supervising and interacting with offenders or similar populations desirable.
• Experience operating commercial kitchen equipment required.
• Good reading, writing and communication skills required.
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple meals for 50+ clients.
• Able to work overtime beyond 40 hours.
• Awareness of addiction issues recommended.
• Must pass background/security check.
• Proficiency with computers and basic software expected.
• Able to physically lift 30–40 pounds safely.
• Duties may include other tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Maintain offender confidentiality as required by law.
• Supervise offenders assisting with meal preparation tasks.
• Ensure kitchen safety and compliance with fire/health codes.
• Inspect fire suppression systems and extinguishers as required.
• Plan menus and weekly grocery lists using bulk items.
• Shop for groceries locally and manage weekly inventory.
• Keep kitchen and dining areas clean and compliant with dietary needs.
• Collaborate with other staff on residents’ dietary requirements.
• Perform additional duties as directed by supervisors.
