Job summary

The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is hiring cooks to prepare meals in a secure institutional kitchen, portion food, and supervise inmates in the assigned unit.

Responsibilities include maintaining a clean work area, serving meals on the steam table, and supporting related tasks as needed. Minimum two years of cooking experience and English literacy are required; NYC residency rules may apply.

Qualifications

• Two years of cooking experience; able to speak, read and write English.
• One year of experience in a correctional facility assisting in cooking and food prep under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook food in an institutional setting using standard recipes.
• Portion out food according to departmental standards and serve to feeding areas.
• Supervise and instruct inmates assigned to the unit.
• Maintain cleanliness and order of the work area.
• Assist on steam table in serving area when required.
• Perform related duties and special projects as assigned.
