Job summary

Johnston County Detention Center is seeking a Cook to assist the Food Services Manager in coordinating inmates in meal preparation and serving for the inmate population. The role involves cooking a variety of items per the prescribed menu and working twelve hour shifts to ensure meals, sanitary conditions, and supervision of trustees.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED and some experience in food preparation.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Some experience in food preparation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Food Services Manager and participate in the preparation of a complete meal by starting the cooking process, seasoning, observing while cooking, removing when done, and placing food in warming devices.
• Supervise inmates in their kitchen assignments and ensure sanitary conditions are maintained during meal prep and service.
• Prepare meats, vegetables, breads, desserts, and salads; may prepare special diet foods as needed.
