Job summary

The Missouri Department of Corrections is seeking candidates to support offender programs within facilities. The role involves planning and coordinating activity programs, identifying eligible offenders for participation, and coordinating community projects and volunteers to expand opportunities for rehabilitation.

Qualifications

  • Four or more years of correctional experience, or vocational or paraprofessional experience in social services, probation and parole, corrections casework, guidance and counseling, mental health, health, substance abuse, law enforcement, public or business administration, or experience closely related to the listed responsibilities.
  • Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at a rate of 30 credit hours for one year.
  • Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive a $2.00 per hour shift differential if assigned to a qualifying shift, and a $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential if assigned to a post within a restrictive housing unit.

Responsibilities

  • Plans/develops/coordinates new or revised facility activity programs, including offender organizations, work release and/or education release; confers with supervisors and various facility department heads with regard to activity planning and scheduling for the purpose of developing a more comprehensive program.
  • Monitors files and works with facility treatment teams in order to identify offenders eligible for participation in program activities; monitors and maintains records of eligible participants; makes referrals to appropriate community service or job site.
  • Schedules and supervises offender groups or workers functioning outside the facility; schedules volunteer and related groups for visits to the facility.
  • Assists offender groups in selection of community projects within the community for an effective volunteer program; enlists the support of interested volunteer and professional groups and employers in making their programs or jobs available to offenders.
  • Performs work in accordance with established rules and regulations; receives general and administrative direction; and preforms other related work as assigned.

Job description

The annual salary listed for this position includes the additional $1.50 per hour maximum security differential ($3,120 annually) for all full-time positions domiciled in a maximum-security institution.

Minimum Qualifications

Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive:

  • A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
  • A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.

The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years!
