THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on emergency response, rescue operations, and prevention activities that support safety across the installation. As an Installation Firefighter, you will perform the following duties:

  • Emergency Response: Respond to building, aircraft, vehicle, and wildland emergencies as part of a firefighting and rescue crew
  • Rescue Operations: Assist individuals in danger by removing them from hazardous areas such as buildings, aircraft, confined spaces, or waterways
  • Firefighting Practices: Operate breathing apparatus and use hose lines, ventilation methods, and foam agents during fire suppression situations
  • Equipment Handling: Utilize and maintain forcible entry tools, rescue tools, and firefighting equipment during extreme conditions
  • Safety Inspections: Conduct inspections and tests of fire protection systems, extinguishers, hoses, and runways to ensure safe operations
  • Standby Duties: Provide standby coverage during fueling, maintenance, public events, and other activities that require personnel readiness

Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full-time employment
  • Your work schedule will be 24 hours on and 72 hours off.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirement:

  • Three years of firefighting experience as a member of a municipal or governmental fire department and possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.

Special Requirements:

  • All positions require an active Firefighter II certification from an organization accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications.
  • All positions require possession of an active Hazardous Materials Awareness certification and an active Hazardous Materials Operations certification from an organization accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications.
  • All positions require possession of an active motor vehicle license.
  • All employees must initially and annually be medically certified as meeting the medical requirements of Department of Defense Manual 6055.05, Occupational Medical Examinations: Medical Surveillance and Medical Qualification or the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) 1582, Standard on Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Departments as required by their position's federal reimbursement authority.
  • This position requires possession of an active emergency medical technician (EMT) certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Health or the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.
  • All employees must obtain within one year of hire and maintain over the course of employment an active Class B Pennsylvania commercial driver's license or an active certificate of authorization to operate fire emergency vehicles issued by the Fire Chief of the hiring fire station.
  • All employees must obtain within one year of hire and maintain over the course of employment an active Airport Firefighter, Driver/Operator Pumper, Driver/Operator Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighter (ARFF), and Driver/Operator Mobile Water Supply certifications from an organization accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must possess a valid federal or state-issued photo ID and pass a favorable NCIC screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap.
  • You must successfully pass a background check to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Willingness and ability to work in Annville, Pennsylvania (Lebanon County)
  • Possession of an active Firefighter I, Firefighter II certification and an Airport Firefighter certification from an organization accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications
