Job summary

Schwarze Industries, a member of the Alamo Group, is seeking a Mechanical Assembler at its Huntsville, AL facility. Under supervision, you will install subassemblies, set up parts, and assemble truck bodies and power modules on the assembly line.

You will use hand tools, power pneumatic tools, torque wrenches and calipers; read blueprints; lift up to 75 pounds; operate a forklift or crane; and record work orders and inventory transactions. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• Ability to read blueprints.
• Able to lift, push or pull 50 -- 75 pounds alone; wear steel‑toe PPE.
• Manual dexterity; mechanically inclined with good eye/hand coordination.
• Knowledge of and ability to use calipers and other measuring devices.
• Ability to operate a forklift and overhead crane.
• Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends and holidays as required.
• Knowledge of and ability to use both powered and hand tools.

Responsibilities

• Sets up job by locating parts and correct job numbers.
• Installs hydraulic and electrical components.
• Fastens parts with bolts, screws, rivets, cotter pins or other fasteners using hand tools and pneumatic tools.
• Positions and bolts engine block components to the truck body with wrenches, hammer and hoist.
• Assembles the truck body and preps the hopper.
• Bolts subassemblies and power module; sets fan clearance to engine with torque wrench and hand tools.
• May remove metal with files and pneumatic tools for close fits.
• May operate drills, riveting machines or hydraulic crimping machines as needed.
• Identify and distribute parts to proper locations; may operate forklift/crane.
• Record work orders and inventory transactions; assist with inventory corrections.

Job description

Under immediate supervision, installs subassemblies into Schwarze product to form structural assemblies of sweepers, partially or completely, for the assembly line. Positions parts according to knowledge of unit being assembled or by following manuals and diagrams. Uses hand tools, power wrenches, gauges, and power tools, to perform operations on the assembly line

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

• Sets up job by locating parts and correct job numbers.
• Installs hydraulic and electrical components.
• Fastens parts together with bolts, screws, spaced clips, rivets, cotter pins or other fasteners using hand tools and portable power pneumatic tools (i.e. impact wrench).
• Positions and bolts engine block components to truck body using wrenches hammer and power hoist.
• Assembles truck body of unit and preps hopper.
• Bolt subassemblies, power module, fan housing, set fan clearance to engine, using torque wrench and other hand tools.
• May remove small quantities of metal with hand files and pneumatic tools to produce close fit between parts.
• May operate drills or riveting machines or hydraulic crimping machine to assist in assembly operation.
• Identify and distribute parts to proper location.
• May operate forklift and crane/hoist.
• Required to accurately record work order information and inventory transactions. Assist with inventory corrections as needed.
