Job summary

Waterville Public Schools in Waterville, Maine is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to provide individualized instruction in a Resource Room setting. The school year position follows school-day hours and calendar, with a focus on implementing IEP goals and supporting students' growth.

The ideal candidate holds Maine certification in Special Education (Maine DOE 286 or 282), a Bachelor's in Education, and, ideally, a Master’s in Special Education.

Qualifications

• State Certification as a Special Education Teacher (Maine DOE 286 or 282).
• Bachelor's degree in education discipline applicable to teaching assignments.
• Master's degree in Special Education preferred.
• Experience in special education teaching preferred.
• Organizational skills and ability to implement positive behavioral supports.

Responsibilities

• Conducts assessments and testing to identify learning needs and plan actions.
• Participates in meetings and develops IEPs for students.
• Supports students and staff in implementing IEPs and behavior plans.
• Coordinates with outside agencies and authorities as needed.
• Coordinates with administrators and other staff to review student needs.
• Assists as liaison between home and school to support growth.
• Maintains accurate records and shares information with colleges and employers as required.
• Encourages parental involvement and effective communication.
• Selects and requisitions books, aids and supplies and maintains inventory.
