Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra (SYSO) is seeking a part-time Middle School Orchestra Conductor for the Music Youth Southeast program in southeast Seattle. You will lead rehearsals, plan repertoire, and guide performances with SYSO coaches and staff.

The role requires a BA or BM in music performance or music education (or equivalent experience) and strong organizational and communication skills, with a passion for engaging middle school musicians.

Qualifications

• BA or BM in music performance or music education, or 4-5 years of equivalent experience.
• Experience in music/educational settings at middle school level preferred.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Program diverse repertoire for the middle school orchestra.
• Conduct rehearsals to maximize efficient use of time.
• Coordinate music preparation and distribution with the music librarian.
• Communicate with SYSO staff on musical matters.
• Be an advocate for SYSO in educational communities.
• Recruit students for SYSO programs.
• Prepare concert programs with bios and seating notes.
• Participate in SYSO fundraising efforts as requested.
• Knowledge of music instruction and artistic planning.
• Furnish program notes in a timely manner.
