Job summary

Smyth County School Board is seeking a Middle School Head Coach to instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and conditioning while modeling strong character and leadership. The role emphasizes teamwork, discipline, and ongoing professional development through clinics and staff collaboration.

The position reports to the school administration and may involve coordinating with volunteer assistant coaches and managing program logistics to uphold sportsmanship and student well-being.

Qualifications

• Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
• Previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport.
• Knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and willingness to study new theories and procedures.

Responsibilities

• In conjunction with the high school head coach, establish the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught.
• Train and inform staff, encourage professional growth through clinic attendance.
• Maintain discipline and morale; perform other duties assigned by the school administration.
• Mentor athletes to develop character traits and monitor grades and conduct.
• Assist with scheduling, transportation, and tournament requirements; coordinate programs with maintenance and school staff.
• Provide safeguarding for equipment and facilities; communicate with athletic director on policy changes.
