Qualifications

• Good knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials and equipment of instructional specialty to which assigned.
• Good knowledge of student growth and development applicable to the grade level assigned.
• Good knowledge of school’s program of studies related to mission, goals and organization.
• Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs.
• Ability to plan and implement lessons based on curriculum objectives and the needs and abilities of students.
• Ability to move around the room in order to monitor student work and behavior.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents and peers.
• Skilled and effective in oral and written communication.
• Excellent human relations skills.
• Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Teach reading language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and music to pupils.
• Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and district procedures.
• Maintain auditable attendance records and daily reports.
• Control district-owned instructional equipment and supplies to prevent loss or abuse.
• Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior for an orderly, productive classroom.
• Evaluate, select and requisition books, instructional aids, equipment and supplies.
• Maintain professional competency through inservice education activities.
• Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated locations and times.
• Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning.
• Prepare written lesson plans with objectives and align to state standards.
• Encourage students to set and maintain classroom behavior standards.
• Implement instructional methods and materials to meet objectives.
• Protect students, equipment, and facilities through safety precautions.
• Evaluate student progress regularly.
• Maintain records as required by law and policy.
• Assist administration in implementing policies and maintaining order.
• Be available to students and parents outside instructional hours when required.
• Attend faculty and other meetings.
• Supervise student organizations as requested.
• Establish open communication with students and parents on academic and behavioral progress.
• Provide progress reports and weekly updates.
• Grow professionally through inservice activities.
