Job summary

West Haven Community House is seeking an Head Teacher, CYS, for our Early Learning Center in West Haven, CT. This full-time role supports 35 hours weekly with two shift options (7:00am–3:00pm or 9:30am–5:30pm).

The Head Teacher implements OEC standards, guides a teaching team, and ensures developmentally appropriate practice, safety, and family engagement in daily activities and documentation.

Qualifications

• Requires a Baccalaureate or advanced degree in early childhood education.
• Two years teaching experience in early childhood setting.
• Must meet Head Teacher Certificate requirements or be approved through OEC.
• CPR/First Aid, Medication Administration Training and EpiPen certification.

Responsibilities

• Lead by example to ensure compliance with education service policies and mandated staff/child ratios.
• Supervise and train staff, volunteers, and observers; provide orientation and planning support.
• Plan developmentally appropriate activities aligned with CT standards and documentation deadlines.
• Ensure safety, cleanliness, and compliance with regulatory requirements in the classroom.
