Job summary

Youth With A Purpose (YWAP) is seeking a Boy Mentor for its after-school program in California. The role focuses on mentoring boys in performing arts including dance, music, acting, art, and theatre, with face-to-face sessions onsite.

You will develop engaging activities, model positive behavior, assess progress, and communicate with parents and teachers. This part-time, on-site position offers flexible evening/weekend hours and a chance to make a lasting impact.

Qualifications

• Experience in performing arts and youth mentoring.
• Experience working with children/adolescents in various settings.
• Conflict management skills to address disputes among youth.
• Experience with individuals with disabilities is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement engaging programs incorporating performing arts to boost creativity and personal growth among boys.
• Act as a role model, setting a positive example in ethics, punctuality, and respect for others.
• Identify individual needs of the boys and adapt mentoring approaches to support emotional, social, and educational development.
• Organize and facilitate group activities promoting teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Monitor mentees' progress through regular check-ins and assessments to tailor support.
• Foster a safe and inclusive environment that respects diversity and promotes cooperation.
• Communicate with parents, teachers, and other stakeholders about progress and challenges.
• Engage in professional development opportunities to improve mentoring and arts-related skills.
