Job summary

Westover School is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach for the Winter 2026–2027 season. You will work closely with the Varsity Head Coach to support practices, competition, and player development, fostering a positive and competitive environment for student-athletes.

The ideal candidate has knowledge of basketball fundamentals and game strategy, enjoys mentoring young people, and is prepared to contribute to a respectful, inclusive team culture.

Qualifications

• Strong basketball knowledge, fundamentals, rules, and strategy.
• Coaching experience preferred at high school/club/collegiate levels.
• Playing background encouraged if strong game knowledge.
• Ability to teach, communicate, and provide constructive feedback.
• Enthusiasm for working with adolescents and their growth.
• Collaborative with Varsity Head Coach and Athletics.
• Current First Aid/CPR/AED or willingness to obtain before season.
• Valid CT driver's license or willingness to obtain if required.
• Must complete state and federal background checks.
• Commitment to an inclusive, student-centered community.

Responsibilities

• Assist Varsity Head Coach in planning and leading practices.
• Provide instruction to develop basketball fundamentals, skills, game awareness, and strategy.
• Support Head Coach during games, practices, and team activities.
• Foster a positive, competitive, inclusive, and supportive team culture.
• Encourage teamwork, sportsmanship, accountability, and confidence.
• Supervise student-athletes' health, safety, and well-being during activities.
• Travel with the team to away competitions as needed.
• Collaborate with Varsity Head Coach, JV Coach, and Athletics Department.
• Communicate effectively with student-athletes, families, coaches, officials, and department members.
• Follow Westover School's Employee and Coaching Handbooks.
• Serve as a positive role model with professionalism and integrity.
