Job summary

Southwire Company in Heflin, AL is seeking a Quality Assurance 1 to monitor and inspect wire products to ensure compliance with Southwire and laboratory specifications. This role emphasizes accuracy, data capture, and adherence to ISO quality procedures.

You will perform tests, document results, operate iFix data systems, and support cross training within the team while maintaining safe working conditions and proper PPE usage.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Must have knowledge/experience using SAP, Advaris, and Shopfloor.
  • May be required to learn other software systems for this role.
  • Must read, write, and speak English; Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand and lift heavy loads for long periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Documents all test and production on required forms, tags, and computer systems.
  • Monitor and record production data from iFix system to assign proper rod grade (CTON Rod Mill).
  • Cuts samples for customers as required in customer specifications and indicated on product specifications.
  • Hold tags and QA samples.
  • Responsible for inspecting and testing the wire during and after its production to make sure it meets industry standards.
  • Responsible for keeping personnel informed if their products do not meet the specification.
  • Responsible for issuing stop tags prohibiting certain wire from being used or sold if it fails to meet all industry standards.
  • Responsible for completing machine checks on all assigned machine and for filling out all related reports.
  • Responsible for keeping work area and equipment clean and in good condition.
  • Responsible for checking to see that the correct PCS tags are used on the finished wire.
  • Responsible for passing tests once a month to ensure that the assistant understands basic testing procedures sufficiently and has kept abreast of all new techniques and procedures.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Job Description
JOB OVERVIEW

The Quality Assurance 1 role is a medium skill role that will be responsible for keeping a close check on the quality of all wire products to ensure that the finished wire always meets Southwire and Laboratories specifications.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or equivalent

PRIMARY JOB TASKS
  • Documents all test and production on required forms, tags, and computer systems

CROSS TRAINING
  • Will be required to cross-train one equipment within your identified workgroup at your facility
  • Once trained in more complex jobs, may be required to fill the position in the event of absence or vacancy
  • Will be required to rotate on a set frequency within your workgroup to maintain skill proficiency
QUALITY
  • Do not release products until all quality checks have been passed
  • Perform quality checks, as outlined in the process procedures for the machine, and minor maintenance when necessary
  • Immediately report quality issues to the supervisor or quality manager
  • Use the company’s ISO Quality System documentation to help guide all daily quality activities
SAFETY
  • Working safely is a condition of employment
  • Responsible to observe Southwire safety rules and maintain good housekeeping
  • Follow all safety procedures and rules
  • Properly wear all required PPE
  • Review and know all Job Hazard Analyses for proper job sequence and hazards associated with the jobs assigned to do
  • Review and know all Safety Data Sheets for the jobs assigned to do
  • Maintain all work areas to 5S standards
  • Perform pre-operation safety inspection and hazard analysis
  • Follow all company environmental rules/procedures and handle all materials in a manner designed to minimize environmental impact
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
  • Must be able to work in hot and cold environments normally found in a prefabricated building without climate-control
  • Physical activity associated with daily performance of this job include: balance, climbing, fingering, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, standing, stooping, walking and sitting
