Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson is seeking a Construction Inspector to apply standard inspection procedures during and after construction for structural quality, safety and code conformance. Work is field-based in the Norfolk area for projects across the United States.

The role involves field tests on concrete and soils, measuring dimensions, maintaining records, and preparing field notes. Requires a high school diploma and 1–4 years of inspection experience; a civil engineering or construction

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (may be substituted for experience).
  • 1-4 years of Construction Inspection Experience.
  • Computer Proficiency.
  • Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications and construction methods to ensure compliance to legal requirements and safety regulations.
  • Performs routine tests on concrete, soils and other materials.
  • Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures, grades and/or pavement to ensure compliance to plans and codes.
  • Gathers and maintains record documents.
  • Makes field notes and computations.

Position summary

Applies standard inspection procedures to ongoing activities during and after construction for structural quality, general safety and conformance to plans, specifications and codes.

Compensation

Compensation for this position is $65,000.00 - $100,000.00, commensurate with experience, education and certifications. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description. We notice that we receive a wide variety of applicants and recognize that the person selected may be less experienced or more experienced. If so, the actual salary range may vary from the estimate provided.

Required Skills

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
