Job summary

Intertek is seeking a Petroleum Inspector to join the Caleb Brett team in Freeport, TX. The role involves travel to client sites for on-site inspections, measuring volumes and temperatures, sampling, and conducting visual checks on tanks, lines, and vessels. On-call shifts and travel are required.

Qualifications

  • Basic mathematics understanding and ability to operate in an automated environment.
  • Willingness to work on call shifts, including nights, weekends or holidays.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs for access to shore tanks.
  • Ability to perform volume and temperature measurements and sampling on various vessels and tanks.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to communicate results clearly.
  • Valid driver’s license with a reliable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and follow Caleb Brett safety procedures.
  • Perform volume, temperature measurement and sampling of commodities in shipping lines and tanks.
  • Conduct visual inspections of lines, pumps, manifolds, and tanks across ships and rail cars.
  • Complete custody transfer surveys for commodities transferred by rail, tank trucks and ships.
  • Calibrate equipment and verify function checks as part of routine checks.
  • Collaborate with terminal, transport and company personnel to complete tasks on time.
  • Maintain organized work areas, records and equipment.
  • Record and communicate inspection results for traceability.

What are we looking for?

The Petroleum Inspector is responsible for performing advanced volume measurement, temperature measurement and sampling of commodity materials contained or conveyed in shipping lines, shore tanks, cars, tank trucks, barges, and ships. This position will involve travelling to client locations, for onsite inspections.

Shift/Schedule

Shift work, and on call hours that may include nights, weekends or holidays

What you’ll do:
  • Understand and adhere to Caleb Brett safety procedures
  • Perform volume measurement, temperature measurement and sampling of commodity materials contained or conveyed in shipping lines, shore tanks, cars, tank trucks, barges, and ships
  • Perform visual inspections on lines, pumps, manifolds, shore tanks, rail cars, tank trucks, barges, and ships
  • Complete custody transfer surveys of commodities transferred to and from rail cars, tank trucks, shore tanks, barges, and ships
  • Perform routine equipment calibrations, verification, and function checks
  • Provide on the job assistance to coworkers, and/or receive training from more experienced inspectors
  • Communicate and coordinate with terminal, transport, and company personnel, to promote smooth exercise of duties assigned
  • Monitor the availability of the supplies needed for the above processes, and notify the Dispatcher or Coordinator of needed supplies
  • Organise and coordinate jobs so that services are rendered, and reports and samples are submitted in a timely manner
  • Maintain work areas, records, and equipment, in a clean, organised, and functional condition
  • Verify and communicate the results obtained from inspections, and record the entries into the appropriate media, whether print or electronic required, to ensure the validity and traceability of the information

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:
  • Must have basic grasp of basic mathematics and work in an automated environment
  • Ability to work on call shifts
  • Cannot have a fear of heights
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs for shore tanks
  • Ability to perform volume measurement, temperature measurement and sampling of commodity materials contained or conveyed in lines, shore tanks, cars, tank trucks, barges, and ships
  • Ability to perform visual inspections on lines, pumps, manifolds, shore tanks, rail cars, tank trucks, barges, and ships
  • Ability to complete custody transfer surveys of commodities transferred to and from rail cars, tank trucks, shore tanks, barges, and ships
  • Ability to perform routine equipment calibrations, verification, and function checks
  • Ability to verify and communicate the results obtained and to make the entries into the appropriate media
  • *Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record (required)
  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:
  • IFIA certified is a plus, as well as other industry certifications
  • Local "refinery-qualified" inspection experience is highly preferred
