Job summary

Silgan Plastics is seeking a backup operator through an apprenticeship program to cover vacations or absences. You will be pulled from existing classification, perform blow molding duties, and receive step-up pay during the backup period.

After coverage, you return to your regular duties and classification. Responsibilities include taking bottle measurements, running the blow molder and downstream components, molding cleanup, and supporting changeovers while maintaining a clean, safe work

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds continuously throughout the shift.
• Willingness to be trained on blow mold basics; 6 wk. Operator Training Course.
• Subject to a formal evaluation at 3 weeks, 6 weeks, and additional periodic intervals by the Trainer.
• This position requires multitasking in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
• Mechanical aptitude a plus.

Responsibilities

• Take readings (all bottle measurements).
• Run the blow molder and all downstream components.
• Clean molds.
• Assist with changeovers.
• Maintain a safe work environment per established standards and guidelines.
• Inspect work areas for unsafe acts/conditions and report them.
• Use verbal and written communications effectively.
• Perform sweeping, cleaning and sorting duties as necessary.
• Follow safety rules and procedures in all duties.

The back up operator is an apprenticeship program. The back up will be used to perform duties when fill in is needed such as vacations or call offs. The back up will be pulled from their existing classification to work as a backup operator and given step up pay.
