Job summary

Choate Engineering Performance is seeking an Inspector Apprentice to oversee the inspection process from receiving cores to final remanufactured units, ensuring adherence to OEM specs and quality standards.

You will use micrometers, calipers, and bore gauges to verify dimensions, supervise assembly inspection for torque and alignment, and document results while collaborating with engineering and production to resolve issues and drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Manufacturing experience preferred (1 year+).
  • Familiarity with measuring tools is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the inspection process from receiving cores to final inspection of remanufactured units.
  • Inspect components (pistons, cylinders, crankshafts, camshafts) for wear or defects.
  • Use micrometers, calipers, and bore gauges to verify dimensions to OEM specs.
  • Supervise assembly inspection for torque, alignment, and fitment.
  • Oversee testing procedures and document results; participate in root-cause analysis.
  • Maintain detailed records of inspection results and deviations.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production to drive corrective actions and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with EPA/OSHA and other regulations.
  • Communicate quality issues across teams to drive improvements.

Your role is critical in ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of quality and reliability and upholding the reputation of our diesel engine remanufacturing company by delivering reliable and high-quality products to our customers every time.

Job Description:

Inspection Process: You’ll be responsible for overseeing the inspection process, from receiving core engines to the final inspection of remanufactured units.

Component Inspection: You’ll meticulously inspect individual components such as pistons, cylinders, crankshafts, and camshafts for any signs of wear, damage, or defects.

Precision Measurement: Using precision measuring tools like micrometers, calipers, and bore gauges, you’ll verify dimensions to ensure components meet OEM specifications.

Assembly Inspection:You’ll supervise the assembly process, checking torque specifications, proper alignment, and fitment of parts to guarantee the integrity of the rebuilt engine.

Testing:After assembly, you’ll oversee testing procedures, which may include dynamometer testing to simulate real-world operating conditions and ensure optimal performance.

Documentation:Accurate record-keeping is crucial. You’ll maintain detailed documentation of inspection results, test data, and any deviations from specifications.

Problem Resolution:If any issues arise during the inspection process, you’ll work closely with engineering and production teams to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.

Continuous Improvement:You’ll actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives, identifying areas for process enhancement and implementing best practices to enhance product quality and efficiency.

Compliance: Ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations is essential. You’ll stay updated on relevant regulations, such as those from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Communication:Effective communication is key. You’ll collaborate with various teams, including production, engineering, and quality assurance, to address quality issues and drive quality improvements.
