Job summary

G.E.C., Inc. (GEC) in Louisiana seeks inspectors to document construction in accordance with plans and specifications, and to ensure quality workmanship on highway projects. You will prepare daily field diaries, record measured quantities, and maintain field logs using Word and PDF.

Role may involve nighttime inspections, travel within Louisiana, and occasional out-of-town assignments. Candidates should have 1 year of road/bridge experience and may hold a Flagger card or ProCore experience.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year road or bridge construction experience.
  • Preferred: experience with City of New Orleans, Jefferson Parish, Baton Rouge area, and LADOTD specifications.
  • Preferred: certified as Traffic Control Technician or Traffic Control Supervisor with Flagger card.
  • Preferred: ProCore experience.

Responsibilities

  • Inspectors make site observations to document that construction is performed according to detailed contract requirements, including plans, and contract and specification conformance.
  • Duties include inspecting work being performed by the contractor for compliance with plans and specifications, inspecting for quality workmanship, preparing field diary with daily activities, measuring quantities of work, and documenting items of work performed in field books or computer.
  • Inspectors inspect for quality, based on visual inspection, sampling, and testing of materials.
  • Inspectors may be required to take photographs, file reports, perform field sampling, and measure and document quantities of work performed daily.
  • Inspectors shall record findings in field logs book or computer. Use of Microsoft Word and PDF is required.
  • Inspection sites are dirty and may be cluttered with tools, materials, or debris. Inspectors may have to walk, climb, crawl, bend, lift, and are required to be in good physical condition. Jobsite safety is a top priority.
  • Inspection of highway work may be required at times, including serving as the principal inspector on the project.
  • In addition to inspection duties, some review of the construction layout will be required.
  • Duties could require nighttime inspection out-of-town travel and extended stays for projects in Louisiana.
  • Duties could/will include climbing of ladders, stairs and working at heights
  • Employees are expected to participate in proactive team efforts to achieve company goals and to assist in any duties required to deliver a quality product on schedule.

Job description

HOURS

Monday thru Friday 7:00 am to 5:00pm; Occasional Saturday based on construction activities. NOTE: Inspectors hours could be altered by the project's construction work hours.

LOCATION

Greater New Orleans and Baton Rouge area

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum 1 year road or bridge construction experience; preferred experience with the City of New Orleans, Jefferson Parish, Baton Rouge surrounding area, and LADOTD specifications
  • Preferred: certified as either Traffic Control Technician or Traffic Control Supervisor with Flagger card.
  • Preferred: ProCore experience
JOB PREREQUISITES

Candidate will be required to pass a physical, drug test, and must maintain an acceptable driving record while employed.
