Job description

The Inspector (Road and Bridge) performs inspection work to ensure all utility related construction work is in compliance with applicable construction requirements of the County. Works under the direction of the Road and Bridge Superintendent. Duties include:

• Reviews plans submitted by contractors to ensure that they comply with County Specifications and Requirements.
• Monitors ongoing Construction Projects to ensure work progress, and other operational mandates are being met.
• Explains County Construction ordinances and requirements by correspondence, phone, and personal contact.
• Prepares and Maintains work progress reports, daily and weekly schedules, and other operational records.
• Coordinates and inspects Public Works Road Projects that significantly impact the progress of the County’s Project Section.
• Works with construction conflicts in coordination with County Project Section, and various utility companies and contractors.
• Responds to inquiries by utility companies and contractors regarding jobs in progress, and construction problems.
• Prepares routine correspondence as required.
  Performs other duties as assigned.

At least 5 years experience in the repair or construction of roads and drainage structures, plus one year experience in the field of construction inspection, as well as a working knowledge of safety precautions in the use of tools and equipment are required. Candidates must have the ability to communicate effectively with the public, prepare clear and concise reports, and recognize hazardous conditions created by misapplications of regulations. The ability to read and interpret reference books, technical material, right-of-way specifications, and blueprints as well as the ability to detect deviations from such plans is required. Candidates must possess and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license. A level of education equivalent to a high school diploma or GED is required.
