PDS Tech Commercial in Fairfield, CA is seeking an Inspector, Receiving Inspector / CMM Programmer & Operator to help ensure aerospace components meet strict quality standards. You will perform receiving, dimensional, and visual inspections and interpret drawings and GD&T.

Qualified candidates bring 3-5 years in inspection, experience with calipers, micrometers, CMMs, and AS9102/FAI knowledge. CMM programming skills are a plus; this role offers full-time hours, day or swing shifts, and

Responsibilities

Job Title: Inspector, Receiving Inspector / CMM Programmer & Operator
Location: Fairfield, CA 95433
Job Type: Full-Time, 6-Month Contract
Pay Rate: $39.53 per hour
Schedule: Monday through Friday

• 1st Shift: 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM
• 2nd Shift: 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM
• Training: All training begins on 1st shift, with designated team members transitioning to 2nd shift after training
• Overtime and weekend flexibility may be required based on business needs

In this critical quality role, you will help ensure that mechanical components, assemblies, materials, and finished products meet rigorous engineering and quality requirements before they move into production or distribution. Whether your expertise is in receiving inspection, dimensional inspection, or CMM programming and operation, your attention to detail will directly contribute to product quality, manufacturing performance, and aerospace excellence.

What You’ll Do

As an Inspector, your responsibilities may include:

• Perform receiving, dimensional, and visual inspections of mechanical components, piece parts, assemblies, raw materials, and finished products.
• Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, inspection plans, purchase order requirements, and GD&T.
• Use precision inspection equipment including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, optical comparators, profilometers, Smart Scope/vision measurement systems, and other measurement tools.
• Conduct finished-product inspections using hand gauges and measurement systems.
• Determine inspection requirements based on internal and customer engineering drawings.
• Review Certificates of Conformance, material certifications, special-process certifications, and supplier quality documentation.
• Complete First Article Inspection (FAI) activities and support applicable AS9102 requirements.
• Accurately document inspection results and maintain quality and inspection records.
• Identify and document nonconforming material and support appropriate nonconformance and material disposition processes.
• Maintain traceability and proper control of accepted, rejected, inspected, and quarantined material.
• Partner with Quality Engineering, Supplier Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to resolve discrepancies.
• Support AQL sampling and approved Skip Lot inspection processes when applicable.
• Maintain inspection equipment, calibration requirements, work areas, and documentation according to established quality procedures.
• Support internal and external quality audits.
• Participate in continuous improvement efforts designed to increase inspection efficiency and reduce backlogs.
• Cross-train on related inspection functions and support additional quality responsibilities as assigned.

For CMM Programmer / Operator Assignments

Selected inspectors with CMM expertise will also:

• Create and edit CMM inspection programs.
• Validate CMM programs for accuracy and effectiveness.
• Perform detailed dimensional inspections using coordinate measuring machines.
• Apply advanced knowledge of GD&T during inspection.
• Log, maintain, evaluate, and report inspection data.
• Support calibration activities and systems.
• Train team members in CMM operation and programming and help troubleshoot issues.
• Utilize CMM Manager software or equivalent.
• Support portable measuring arm programming and operation where applicable.

At least three members of the inspection team will need CMM programming and operating expertise.

Required Qualifications

We’re looking for candidates who bring:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3 to 5 years of experience in receiving inspection, mechanical inspection, dimensional inspection, manufacturing quality, or a related inspection position.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and inspection requirements.
• Working knowledge of precision measurement equipment, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and optical measurement tools.
• Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Experience using comparators and other precision measurement equipment.
• Knowledge of FAI processes and certification review.
• Ability to accurately and clearly document inspection results.
• Strong attention to detail and sound quality judgment.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a high-volume production environment.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and other teams.

For CMM Programmer / Operator Candidates

• 4 to 8 years of CMM inspection experience.
• Strong ability to develop inspection programs using CMM Manager software or equivalent.
• Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
• Strong proficiency in interpreting and applying GD&T standards.
• Ability to validate CMM programs.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
• Ability to pass vision and color perception examinations.

Preferred Qualifications

Standout candidates may also have:

• Previous experience in the aerospace, defense, automotive, medical device, or another highly regulated manufacturing industry.
• Experience working within AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality systems.
• Advanced working knowledge of GD&T.
• Experience with CMMs, Smart Scope, vision systems, optical comparators, and/or profilometers.
• SAP Quality Management or similar ERP/quality-system experience.
• Experience with First Article Inspection and AS9102 requirements.
• Familiarity with AQL sampling and Skip Lot inspection methodologies.
• Experience reviewing Certificates of Conformance, material certifications, special-process certifications, and supplier quality documentation.
• Familiarity with nonconforming material control and MRB processes.
• 2 to 3 years of experience with TSPACE Plus Portable Measuring Arm programming and operation, particularly for CMM-focused positions.
• Ability and flexibility to work overtime and weekends when needed.
