Job description

Description

APGFCU - Your Community Credit Union! For over 80 years, APGFCU has shared our financial experience and provided valuable products and services to build stability and financial independence, one member at a time. We are looking for those who want to join this movement and become a part of a growing organization. We offer competitive pay and great benefits.

Summary: Under the direction of the mortgage sales manager and the Vice President of Mortgage Lending the Inside Mortgage Consultant is responsible for meeting annual production targets via the origination of first mortgage and home equity loans. This will be accomplished by responding timely to internal and external referrals, conducting in-depth interviews to understand mortgage needs and goals, preparing completed loan application packages, communicating loan policies in accordance with Credit Union and secondary investor guidelines, and serving members and loan-partners promptly and professionally.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Lead Management: Contact all branch-submitted mortgage referrals within 24-48 hours of receipt, and document activity in lead management system.

Consultation: Guide members through qualification steps and assist with finding the best loan product and program to fit their needs. Consider Conventional, Jumbo, VA, FHA, USDA and Home Equity financing options, simultaneous 1st and 2nd loan scenarios, premium pricing, lender-paid and borrower-paid single-premium mortgage insurance options and down-payment and closing cost assistance programs, all as the situation warrants.

Applications: Review consumer-submitted applications for completeness, quality and regulatory compliance. Take complete, quality applications via phone and face-to-face interviews.

Pipeline Management / Application Follow-Up: Monitor pipeline report on a daily basis to track delays and follow up with members who have not submitted their loan paperwork. Advise members on the required paperwork to be submitted for underwriting and compliance, and set appropriate expectations for return of the paperwork. Regularly follow up on preapproval applications in an effort to provide timely updates and information to members during their search for homes, and increasing the likelihood the member will choose the Credit Union for financing once a purchase contract is signed.

Member Contact: Act as primary contact for members throughout the loan process. At the time of application convey detailed expectations regarding the estimated turnaround time, rate-lock on first mortgages, documentation required, key milestones and status steps. While the loan is in-process the Mortgage Consultant will be called upon to discuss rate & fee changes in response to updated information, provide additional member support as needed, and communicate loan denial when applicable.

Realtor Contact: Make introductory calls to realtors in preapproval and purchase-application scenarios and maintain status communication thru closing.

Service: Consistently demonstrate exceptional member service, as evidenced by member satisfaction surveys and testimonials.

Cross-Sell: Pursue cross-sell opportunities, including auto, credit card and share accounts.

Travel: May travel between branches for face-to-face appointments and may attend purchase-loan settlements.

Sales / Business Development: Proactively solicit mortgage referrals from all available sources, with a special emphasis on developing relationships with realtors in Harford, Cecil and Baltimore Counties, and Baltimore City.

Workshops/Expos: As needed represent the Credit Union at First Time Homebuyer-related Workshops, Realtor Expos, and local housing agency events. Cultivate relationships with local housing agencies for the purpose of promoting credit union First Time Home buying programs.

Additional: Responsible for completion of applicable training and compliance on federal regulations and APGFCU policies and procedures as related to the duties of this position (Bank Secrecy Act, Information Security as examples, if applicable).

Qualifications:

Education: Minimum of Associates Degree.

Experience: Two years of mortgage sales experience or the equivalent of three plus years of lending experience in a related role

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Conventional, and Home Equity financing

  • Knowledge of VA, FHA & Rural Housing financing considered a plus

  • Experience reading tri-merge credit reports and DU or LP findings

  • Familiarity with secondary mortgage market underwriting, pricing, operations and requirements

Registration: In accordance with the SAFE Act requirements, all applicants for employment in the Mortgage Consultant role will be required to register or renew with the National Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) and maintain a status in good standing.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interviewing, oral and written communication skills

  • Technologically proficient with systems, standard office software and other tools

  • Highly self-motivated with ability to work well in a team environment

  • Thrives in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment

  • Analytical - Problem Solver

  • Fast and eager learner, and willing to grow

  • Professional demeanor

  • May be required to work some nights or weekends
