Job summary

Avail Staffing is seeking skilled Inside Machinists to fabricate, maintain, and repair machinery per blueprints and specifications in a shipyard setting. The role requires setting up and operating various machine tools and working independently with high precision.

Candidate should have strong shop math, be able to read technical drawings, and perform detailed CFRs while collaborating with engineers and production staff.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience operating manual or CNC lathes/milling machines.
• Strong understanding of shop math, mechanics, and material machinability.
• Ability to read blueprints, technical drawings, and trade documents.
• Skilled in setup, operation, and inspection of machining tools.
• Proficient with precision measurement instruments and inspection techniques.

Responsibilities

• Interpret blueprints, sketches, manuals, and specifications to determine machining requirements.
• Set up and operate machine tools including lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, jig borers, and boring machines.
• Perform machining operations, verify dimensions and tolerances, and adjust machines as needed.
• Measure and inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, depth mics, and other precision tools.
• Select and secure fixtures, tools, attachments, and standard materials for machining.
• Conduct assembly of machined parts and test operation to ensure functionality.
• Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and perform minor maintenance.
• Collaborate with engineers and production personnel to resolve technical issues.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment and report safety concerns immediately.
• Complete comprehensive CFRs.
• Perform threading operations and ensure accurate gauging.
• Use hand and power tools to complete assigned tasks.
• Work independently or as part of a team on various fabrication projects.
