Chipton-Ross is seeking multiple Inside Machinist (Large Machine Operator) for a contract opportunity in Newport News, VA.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

Two years minimum experience as an Inside-Shop Machinist. Recommended skills include safety orientation, familiarity with numerical controlled processes, manual data input, tooling offsets, conversation controllers, and operation of manual and/or NC machines such as lathes, mills, horizontal & vertical machining centers, EDMs, etc. Experience with controllers such as Fanuc, Siemens, Acramatic, Cincinnati-Milacron, etc. Familiar with precision measuring instruments: outside/inside micrometers, depth micrometers, verniers, etc. Familiar with threading and measuring/gauging requirements, drilling/tapping processes, carbide machining processes, ability to comprehend complex mechanical drawings and blueprints, strong math skills, and Machinist or Tool & Die apprenticeship.

Machine Experience and Setup

• Horizontal Boring Mills: HBM's with travel of X - 500", Y - 250", Z - 50" and W - 65", turning tables about 10' square with 100-ton load capacity.
• Vertical Turning Centers: VTC's with tables roughly 80" in diameter with 20-ton table capacity, X total travel about 160" and Z 80" of travel.
• Experience with large weldment and casting setup on non-fixtured parts.
• Giddings and Lewis horizontal boring mill, PC-60 6" spindle, table size 72"X144", Z travel 36" Fanuc controller – need 2 machinists.
• Giddings and Lewis horizontal boring mill, PC-50 5" spindle, table size 48"X72", Z travel 36" Fanuc controller – need 3 machinists.
• Schiess Froriep horizontal boring mill, FB 225/200, X travel 43', Y travel 20', Z/W travel 97", 9" spindle diameter, Siemens controller – need 1 machinist.
• Giddings and Lewis horizontal boring mill, 800 RFX, X travel 78', Y travel 16', Z/W travel 8', 8" spindle diameter, G & L controller – need 1 machinist.
• Mitsubishi horizontal boring mill, MAF-RS150C, X travel 78', Y travel 16', Z/W travel 8', 8" spindle diameter, Fanuc controller – need 1 machinist.
• Pama Gantry Mill, Vertiram GT 4600, table size 60' X 20', Siemens controller – need 2 machinists.
• Cincinnati horizontal boring mill, table size 59" X 59", spindle diameter 4", Fanuc controller – need 1 machinist.
• Tacchi CNC lathe, HD/3, Swing over bed 71", Between centers 73', used for large shaft machining, Fanuc controller.

PPE Training

PPE training includes general requirements: eye and face protection, head protection, foot protection, hand and body protection, hearing protection, and body harness-personal fall arrest systems (PFAS) and position device systems.

Required Education

High school diploma is required. School must be accredited.

Work Hours

All shifts. Must be able to work offsite at either Copeland Industrial Park or Oyster Point.
