Job summary

ICES: Data, Discovery, Better Health is seeking an UMS Insert Machine Operator to set up, run and monitor high-speed inserting equipment in a mail production environment. This entry-level role includes on-the-job training and potential advancement opportunities.

Hours are 11:00am to 7:00pm. You will calibrate feeders, load inserts and stock, ensure continuous operation, perform basic maintenance and logging, and help keep a clean, safe work station while following supervisor instructions.

Qualifications

• Ability to stand for the duration of an entire shift.
• Ability to lift 20-25 lbs repetitively.
• Manual dexterity to grasp, hold and handle paper material continuously.
• Strong attention to detail to identify production errors quickly.
• Ability to read job orders and navigate machine touchscreens.
• Strong multitasking and ability to follow written and verbal directions.
• Basic computer literacy (training provided).

Responsibilities

• Calibrate feeders, guides, optical scanners, folding units, printers for each project using job tickets.
• Load inserts, envelope and other stock materials into machine stations.
• Ensure continuous supply during project run.
• Inspect outgoing mail for alignment, sequencing, barcode/printing and camera matching.
• Identify and resolve jams, sensor errors, and feeding issues to minimize downtime.
• Tray, tub and palletize finished product.
• Perform minor routine maintenance and keep equipment clean.
• Accurately log project quantities, material counts and workflow information.
• Follow supervisor instructions and work well in a team or alone.

About the Role:

A UMS Insert Machine Operator sets up, runs and monitors high-speed inserting machinery used in a mail preparation, production environment. This position ensures accurate, efficient collation and insertion of printed materials into envelopes according to job specifications while maintaining quality standards.

This is an entry level position with training on the job and advancement opportunities that may be available for the right candidate! UMS also welcomes individuals with previous inserting machine operating experience.

Hours/Shift: 11:00am to 7:00pm

Key Responsibilities:

UMS Insert Machine Operators are responsible for but not limited to the following outline of responsibilities:

• Machine Operation and Setup
  • Calibrate feeders, guides, optical scanners, folding units, printers (if applicable) for each project using job tickets
• Material Management
  • Load inserts, envelope and other stock materials into machine stations
• Ensure continuous supply during project run
• Quality Control
  • Inspect outgoing mail for alignment, correct sequencing, double feeds and accurate barcode/printing and camera matching
• Troubleshooting
  • Identify and resolve mechanical jams, sensor errors, and feeding issues to minimize downtime
• Sorting and Staging
  • Tray, tub and palletize finished product
    
• Maintenance & Cleanliness
  • Perform minor routine basic maintenance and preventative maintenance
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment
  • Lubricate components
  • Maintain a safe and clean work station
• Documentation
  • Accurately log project quantities, material counts and work flow information accurately

  • Ability to make independent decisions if daily routine is disrupted.

• Ability to follow directions and accommodate UMS supervisor’s instructions.
  • This may require the UMS Insert Machine Operator (employee) to productively function in a team setting as well as alone.

Job Qualifications and Physical Requirements for UMS Insert Machine operator:

• Ability to stand for the duration of an entire shift.
• Ability to lift 20-25 lbs repetitively, along with frequent twisting and turning of the upper body.
• Manual dexterity to grasp, hold and handle paper material continuously.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify production errors or misfeeds quickly.
• Ability to read job orders, navigate machine touchscreens, and perform basic mechanical troubleshooting.
• Strong multitasking skills and the ability to follow written and verbal directions.
• Basic computer literacy (equipment software and functionality will be introduced during training).
