Job summary

Pieper Memorial Veterinary Center in Middletown, CT is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant for inpatient care on the 1st shift. This VECCS Level I facility offers mentorship, diverse cases, and a collaborative environment.

This full-time role requires basic nursing care, animal handling, and support for Veterinary Technicians. EzyVet and SmartFlow experience is a plus. We value teamwork, ongoing learning, and a compassionate approach to client care.

Qualifications

• Prior experience working in a veterinary setting preferred.
• Experience in handling animals and performing basic animal care tasks.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with clients and team members.
• Ability to multi-task and remain organized in a fast-paced environment.
• Compassion and patience when handling animals.
• Basic knowledge of animal behavior and medical terminology.
• Ability to work well under pressure and in stressful situations.
• Ability to work collaboratively with veterinarians, technicians, and other staff members.
• Willingness to take direction and adapt to new tasks and procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
• Punctuality and reliability, with a commitment to maintaining a high standard of care.
• Positive attitude, professionalism, and a compassionate approach to client care.
• Willingness to continue learning and stay updated on veterinary practices.
• Must be 18 years or older to apply.

Responsibilities

• Assist Veterinary Technicians and staff in clinical tasks.
• Support basic nursing care and animal husbandry.
• Restrain and handle animals as needed.
• Prepare and maintain treatment areas and equipment.
