Job summary

Universal Hospital Services Inc. seeks a Certified Recreational Therapist to oversee the inpatient therapeutic activities program and align it with patient needs.

The role involves participating in treatment planning, implementing activity services, and maintaining care under the Rec Therapy Manager. The successful candidate will hold a CTRS certification (or be eligible), possess a bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy/Leisure Studies, and obtain CPR, First Aid, and de-escalation

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreational Therapy or Leisure Studies and CTRS certification or eligibility.
• Must obtain CPR, Handle With Care, Verbal De-Escalation, and First Aid certifications.
• Alternative degrees accepted: Art Therapy or Music Therapy.
• Prior related experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Observe and document changes in patients' appearance, behavior, and progress toward treatment plan goals.
• Assess psychosocial/leisure and recreational skills development/deficiency.
• Communicate changes in patient condition to Charge Nurse or Program Manager.
• Ensure timely documentation of interventions and adherence to patient plan of care.
• Maintain daily progress notes with patient name, therapy date, and session summaries.
• Monitor therapy space, supplies, and equipment; keep areas safe and clean.
• Provide direction, education, and in-service to other unit staff about activity therapy.
• Carry out teaching activities identified in the treatment plan.
• Provide feedback to the interdisciplinary team on patient responses and interventions.
• Contribute to treatment plan with goals and interventions for progressive therapy.
