Job summary

Covington Behavioral Health Hospital is seeking an Activity Therapist to plan and implement activity therapy as part of the patient’s treatment plan. You will assess patient needs, design therapeutic leisure activities, and lead sessions to promote recovery and well-being.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Therapeutic Recreation or related field, with two or more years in healthcare recreation and CPR certification. Master’s degree preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy or related field required.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Two or more years’ experience in recreation in a healthcare setting.
• CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Complete activity assessment through patient observation and interviews to inform the treatment plan.
• Plan, organize, direct and implement activities to support patient progress toward treatment goals.
• Plan and implement an activities program including therapeutic leisure skills and education.
• Facilitate and lead activity sessions to improve mental and physical well-being.
• Instruct patients in activities and techniques such as sports, dance, music, art or relaxation.
• Develop treatment plans and interventions that meet patient needs and goals.
• Direct and supervise activity staff if applicable.
• Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude toward patients and address concerns.
