Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a motivated Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join the Stroke Neurology team in an inpatient capacity. You will participate in daily rounds, assess stroke patients, and respond to acute stroke alerts as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The position is 36 hours weekly across three 12-hour shifts with rotating weekend expectations and no on-call requirements.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an accredited school/college of nursing OR master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
• Acute care certification required for APRNs (inpatient experience as an NP will be considered in lieu of acute care certification).
• Current license as a Registered Nurse in Illinois.

Responsibilities

• Conducts comprehensive appraisals of patients' health status by taking health histories and performing physical examinations.
• Provides direct clinical care to patients.
• Prescribes/orders medications and therapies; orders/interprets laboratory tests, x-rays and procedures.
• Evaluates patients to determine need for further health care.
• Provides comprehensive teaching to patients and families.
• Documents in the medical record all care and education provided and procedures performed.
• Consults with other disciplines as appropriate.
• Maintains certifications and continuing education for licensure and privileging.
