Job summary

Advocate Health in Charlotte, NC is seeking a PRN Inpatient Exercise Specialist to join the Carolinas Rehabilitation team. You will develop and lead mobility and exercise plans for patients, coordinating with nursing and therapy staff in a fast-paced clinical setting.

The position requires a Health/Fitness bachelor’s (exercise physiology preferred), ACSM certification or eligibility, BLS, and 2 years of relevant experience. Weekend and PTO coverage are noted; part-time schedule applies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Health/Fitness field required; prefer Exercise Physiology degree. Master’s Degree preferred.
• Exercise Specialist certification by ACSM or eligible to test; ACSM-CEP or ACSM EP-C preferred.
• BLS HCP certification from AHA required.
• 2 years appropriate experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develops, implements, and performs patient mobilization and exercise programs.
• Assesses contraindications and readiness by reviewing medical records.
• Coordinates care with nursing or therapy services as appropriate.
• Explains mobilization role to patient/family, verifies the order, and confirms patient identity.
• Performs mobilization and adaptive positioning to maximize safety and performance.
• Monitors patient’s performance and tolerance; adjust plan as needed.
• Assesses and measures for appropriate durable medical equipment.
• Documents daily treatment notes and patient/family education.
• Notifies staff of changes in patient condition; communicates status.
• Coordinates care with patient schedule and treatment.
• Responds to emergencies professionally and promptly.
• May cross-train with related staff.
