Job summary

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Lemuel Shattuck Hospital MBMHU seeks an experienced, licensed Psychiatrist to provide direct inpatient psychiatric care to adults with severe mental illness. The Attending Psychiatrist serves as clinical supervisor of the multidisciplinary team and supervises psychologists, NP/PA staff and residents.

Qualifications

• Diagnosis and treatment of serious mental illness.
• Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff.
• Ability to build professional relationships with patients, staff and families.
• Ability to assess information accurately.
• Collaborative and productive work style.
• Experience with trauma and substance use disorders.
• Understanding of psychiatric conditions and treatments.
• Ability to prescribe/supervise treatment within regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

• Serves as clinical supervisor of the multidisciplinary treatment team and supervises psychologists.
• Supervises NP/PA staff, psychiatry residents, and other trainees.
• Provides comprehensive psychiatric services with timely evaluations and ongoing assessments.
• Meets with patients and treatment team; attends clinical rounds.
• Orders consultations and labs and documents results.
• Prepares and updates multidisciplinary treatment plans and risk assessments.
• Obtains informed consent; manages guardianships when needed.
• Oversees discharge planning and coordinates with outpatient providers.
